How to Record and Publish a Podcast Using the Podbean App 2020 Version
How to record and publish a podcast on our Podbean site:
First go to the Podbean site at https://wwiaq.podbean.com/
If you are listening to this, then you must have already found the site, so imaginary bonus points for you.
Then scroll down on the page until you see the grey “Get This Podcast on Your Phone!” box on the lower right hand side of the screen. Click there to download the free Podbean app to your smart phone or other mobile device.
Then go to your mobile device and open the Podbean app. Log-in using the email address by clicking email in the lower left corner. Now click “Already have account?” in the lower left corner. Enter the email address and password for the class. These are available on Course Connect.
Note, that’s my personal email address, so please don’t do anything too zany with access to the Podbean account!
After you log in, press the person button in the upper right corner of the device screen. You will then be taken to the “wwiaq” page. There will be a red circular button with a microphone on the right side of the screen. Give in to temptation and touch the red button.
You are now at the podcasting page. At the most basic level, just touch the green rectangular microphone button toward the center of the screen to start recording. Allow Podbean to access your microphone. You are now at the “Record” page. After pressing the red circular microphone button, you can just start speaking and the magic of technology will record what you say. When you are done recording your podcast, press the red circular button again to pause recording. If you want to delete what you did and start over, just press the “Redo” button on the lower left hand side of the screen. You can also “Edit” your podcast on this page. If you want to add somewhat cheesy music to your podcast, you can experiment with the “Division,” “Country” and “Goodtime” music buttons towards the top of the screen while recording. Please do not use any music that will infringe on anyone’s copyright. That is so beyond my legal competence to deal with.
When you are done and satisfied with you recording, press the check mark circular “Save” button in the lower right corner of the screen. A pop-up box window will then ask you to give your episode a title. Press save when done. This will take you to the “My Drafts” page. To publish your draft to our class podcast website, press the red upload symbol to the right of your episode title. You will now be on the “Episode” page. You can enter an optional (but recommended) description of your episode and add an image. Again, please only use images in the public domain so we don’t run afoul of any copyright issues. If you’d rather not publish right away, you can click on the “Save Draft” button in the upper right corner of the screen. Otherwise, to publish right away, just click the big rectangular “Publish” button in the middle of the screen. This will automatically publish your podcast episode on the main website. Congratulations! You did it! You can obviously get a lot fancier with editing and things like that, but I’ll leave that up to you to experiment with. Have fun.
